No 13 Squadron

Whilst the Company's affiliation to No XIII Squadron dates from 1992 the Squadron was originally formed at Gosport in January 1915. Initially it operated BE2C aircraft in France supporting the Army on observation and photographic reconnaissance. The Squadron was dissolved in 1919 and then between 1924 to 1982 it was twice reformed and disbanded.

Reformed again on 1st January 1990 it was equipped with Tornado GR1As, operating in tactical reconnaissance and ground-attack roles. In 1991, XIII Squadron took part in ‘Operation Desert Storm', and crews deployed to Dhahran and Tabuk in Saudi Arabia. Since the Gulf conflict, the Squadron has undertaken regular deployments to Saudi Arabia and Turkey to fly photographic reconnaissance missions monitoring the no fly zone over Iraq.

The Squadron's present home is at RAF Marham where it has converted to the Tornado GR4A which provides the RAF with an improved night time tactical reconnaissance capability. For more information go to: www.rafmarham.co.uk
