This unit has been supported by the Haberdashers’ Company since 1991 when the then Master David Sime presented the Company Colour to mark the Squadron’s Golden Jubilee. The unit has strong links with the City of London and Haberdasher Aske’s Hatcham College from which many of the Air Cadets are drawn.
The unit is situated in a new HQ in Dulwich and is under the command of Squadron Leader Kevin Mehmet RAFVR(T), Freeman of the Company.
LONDON WING ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIP
The 1475 Squadron ATC, attended Mile End Stadium, East London on the anniversary of the birth of our former Jack D Lane DFC, 1475 (Dulwich) Squadron ATC managing to defend and retain the London Wing Patron, Athletics Championship for 2012.
The Squadron Athletics Squad; “The High Wood Harriers,” under the Captaincy of Cadet Warrant Officer Andrea Riofrio and the co-ordination of the Team Manager, Cadet Sergeant Beatrice Chequer delivered an outstanding performance that any athlete could be justly proud of.
The High Wood Harries, comprising of 47 cadets made up the five teams to compete in the competition against 29 Squadrons in six track and five field events and the relays. We retained the championship with an incredible 44 points lead. This is indeed a record for the Squadron; as was our accrued points of 229 points. To put this into context, our nearest rival, 9F (Islington) Squadron achieved only 185 points to secure the runner up position and in third place 46F (Kensington) Squadron achieved 174 points.
Two Squadron NCOs were reported remarking: “It was a white wash.” “No, it was a Blue, Blue and Gold wash,” replied the other.
Another proud moment for the Squadron. If you wish to record a comment on the Squadron website guest book, know that the cadets of the Squadron would appreciate it.
