Should you wish to give to the Company’s Charities we would recommend giving to the Haberdashers’ Foundation (charity registered number 275067). The Haberdashers' Foundation will promote the personal development, education and vocational training of young people, including pupils or former pupils of Haberdasher schools; and address the needs of some of the most socially and financially disadvantaged people in today's society.
Giving to the Haberdashers' Foundation tax effectively has never been as easy as it is today. A gift of any size can be given with tax relief through Gift Aid. The effect is that a £100 gift is worth £128 to the Foundation and if you are a higher rate taxpayer you can claim the difference between the higher and basic rates of tax. To take advantage of this facility for a gift, now or at any time in the future, please complete the Haberdashers' Gift Aid Declaration. You should only complete the donation if you are a UK tax payer.
For even greater tax efficiency, gifts of shares and other securities attract income tax relief on the market value of shares given and are also free of capital gains tax on transfer, or sale for gifting, to the charity.
Alternatively you can give through a Payroll giving scheme (Give As You Earn), run by your employer, where a sum of money chosen by you is deducted from your salary monthly and forwarded to a Payroll Giving agency which will then send the money on to the charity(ies) of your choice. Tax relief is given to you at your highest rate of tax. A £10.00 gift will cost you, if you are a higher rate taxpayer £6.00 and the charity will receive £10.00. Some employers add to the donor's contribution under matching schemes.
Finally, bequeathing a gift to one of the Company’s charities in your will avoids inheritance tax on its full value.
